The MIM or the Metal Injecting Model is an intricate and specialized procedure that brings together two very essential and advanced technologies such as powder metallurgy and plastic injection molding that are tested for the production of accurate orthodontic parts, which are shaped intricately to suit the product’s necessity. This process involves the fine metal powders which are mixed with thermoplastic binders which are followed up by the processes of molding the cavities of the powder feedstock which is followed by debinding of the thermoplastic binders. The final process of sintering involves the heating of parts in a protected atmosphere so as to produce metallurgical bonds in between the powder particles. This densifies the powder and reduces its size.
This Metal Injection Molding Process is more effective in terms of offering mechanical properties that seem to lack in other die cast materials and plastic injection model. MIM is pocket friendly and has a mechanized alternative to laborious casting processes that reduces investment and maximizes efficiency. The process is adept enough to create intricate geometric designs and is used in place of automated apparatuses or elaborate assembly of parts. It is the perfect option for the production of products that require careful detailed and fragile cross sections.
The process condenses assembly of elaborate, intricate parts and thus minimizes the cost. This is done by the combination of simpler shapes into one complicated whole. The designs are flexible, and it helps produce several complex geometrical parts without any secondary mechanisms which would otherwise be needed in traditional metal processes. The removal of all this secondary machinery by the provision of net shape components reduces a lot of waste.
